ROSEMARY TAMMADGE
March has been a very sad month for Battle Inner Wheel Club when Rosemary died after a short illness. She will be missed by us all. She was a lovely person with many talents not least her ready wit to put a smile on all our faces.
When Alan
retired from the headship of Sevenoaks School he and his wife
settled in Battle and soon became involved in Battle Festival. We
were delighted when Rosemary transferred her Inner Wheel membership
to the Battle club where she quickly made friends and became a
valued member. Her talents for handwork and catering were remarkable
and as President in 1988-9 she entertained us lavishly. Whenever
there was a reason to celebrate Rosemary would offer her services
and home for the occasion. More recently we admired her ability at
detailed tapestry which she put to good effect on the Inner Wheel
District banner. Also we enjoyed December meetings at her home when
the afternoon ended with a truly festive tea of home made goodies
and Christmas cake. Latterly she was club correspondent and wrote
interesting snippets for this publication and the Inner Wheel
District news. Rosemary had three children, several grand children
and two great grandchildren. She was at the centre of a loving
family and this trait shone through her caring personality when she
always had time to listen to, and empathise with other people's
problems. When illness overtook her she still enjoyed talking to
visitors and it was a joy to see the great bond between her and Alan
in the last weeks of her life. We shall miss Rosemary but our
happy memories will remain with each of us in Battle Inner Wheel Dinah Hepburn

Past President Marianne (on left) with President Dinah Hepburn Dinah has been a member of Battle Inner Wheel since 1963, and she celebrates over 40 years a member by becoming our President for the fifth time! This is certainly a record in our club. Battle Inner Wheel is a very small club, meeting in each other’s homes usually on the 1st Monday of each month. At our handover meeting we were delighted to welcome two new members Brenda Good and Jenny Streat. Brenda has just moved into the area, and Jenny has transferred from Rye and Winchelsea club to Battle. As we are few in number we value our club friendship deeply whilst also involving ourselves in the wider District and Association activities. We are always interested in having new members, telephone the Secretary for details - 01580 881612.
